Born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, she went to Montreal for a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University in 1990 (Justice Canada, 2012).
She returned to Toronto for a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1993, the credential restated when Ottawa announced her tribunal appointment in 2019 (The Lawyer's Daily).
