Justice Graeme Mew was born in 1959 in England. He attended Kingston Polytechnic (now Kingston University London), where he earned a B.A. (Honours) in Law in 1980, receiving the Law School Prize for academic excellence. During his time at Kingston, he served as President of the Students' Union. He went on to study at the Inns of Court School of Law in London, and was called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple on July 29, 1982.
Mew later relocated to Canada, becoming a permanent Canadian resident in 1985. He obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Windsor in 1986, graduating on the Dean's Honour Roll. He was called to the Ontario Bar and admitted as a solicitor in 1987. He was subsequently admitted to the British Columbia Bar in 2010 and was also admitted pro hac vice by the United States District Court in the U.S. Virgin Islands in 2003.
