The Member, a Registered Practical Nurse, faced allegations of professional misconduct for yelling at, striking, and verbally abusing a cognitively impaired client in a secure unit.
The Discipline Committee heard testimony from several witnesses, including colleagues who observed or heard parts of the incident.
The Committee found the College's witnesses credible and the Member's testimony hostile and vague.
The Member was found guilty of professional misconduct for failing to maintain the standard of practice, abusing the client, and engaging in disgraceful, dishonourable, and unprofessional conduct.
The Committee ordered a one-month suspension, an oral reprimand, and terms and conditions on her certificate of registration, including completing an abuse prevention program.
