Teacher found guilty of professional misconduct for verbally abusing, threatening, and mocking a student.
The Ontario College of Teachers brought a discipline proceeding against a member for professional misconduct.
The member did not attend the hearing.
The College alleged that the member initiated a verbal confrontation with a student, used profanity, threatened physical violence, and mocked the student's weight in front of the class.
Based on the uncontradicted testimony of another student who witnessed the incident, the Discipline Committee found that the member verbally, psychologically, and emotionally abused the student.
The Committee concluded that the member's actions constituted disgraceful, dishonourable, and unprofessional conduct, as well as conduct unbecoming a member.
A finding of professional misconduct was entered, with a penalty hearing to be scheduled at a later date.
