Ontario College of Teachers v Schneider, 2007 ONOCT 50

Teacher found guilty of professional misconduct for having students massage his back; reprimand and coursework ordered.

Teacher reprimanded and suspended for six months for breaching EQAO test administration protocols.

The member, acting as an Interdepartmental Special Education Head, instructed staff not to seal tests, provided inappropriate assistance to students, and allowed students to complete unfinished sections after the test period.

The member pleaded guilty to failing to maintain professional standards, failing to supervise adequately, and engaging in conduct unbecoming a member.

Motion to withdraw professional misconduct allegations granted on consent.

With the consent of the parties and pursuant to section 4.1 of the Statutory Powers Procedure Act, the Discipline Committee granted the motion and authorized the withdrawal of the allegations without a hearing.

The Ontario College of Teachers brought disciplinary proceedings against a member following his criminal convictions for indecent assault and gross indecency involving six of his students.

The member pleaded no contest to allegations of professional misconduct, specifically contravening a law relevant to his suitability to teach and putting students at risk.

The Discipline Committee accepted the agreed statement of facts and joint submission on penalty.

Finding that the member's actions constituted a severe breach of trust and violation of the students' sexual integrity, the Committee ordered the immediate revocation of his teaching certificate.

Teacher's certificate revoked for professional misconduct following a criminal conviction for breach of trust.

The Ontario College of Teachers brought a discipline proceeding against a member who had been convicted of criminal breach of trust for misappropriating over $286,000 from a school board insurance trust fund.

The member did not attend the hearing.
