The Member, an occasional teacher, pleaded guilty to professional misconduct for posting false, misleading, and discriminatory statements on her public Facebook page.

The posts included COVID-19 misinformation, anti-masking sentiments, and discriminatory comments regarding immigrants, refugees, and transgender athletes.

The Discipline Committee accepted the joint submission on penalty, ordering a reprimand and requiring the Member to complete a course on professional boundaries and the appropriate use of social media.

The Ontario College of Teachers brought a motion seeking leave to withdraw the allegations of professional misconduct against the member set out in the Notice of Hearing.

After three days of a contested hearing, the College advised that based on evidence presented and new evidence brought to its attention, there was no reasonable prospect of proving the allegations.

The member consented to the motion.

The Discipline Committee granted the motion, finding it was not in the public interest to expend resources proceeding with a matter where there was no reasonable prospect of obtaining a finding of professional misconduct.

The Member, a teacher, faced allegations of professional misconduct for verbally, physically, and psychologically abusing two students.

The Member pleaded no contest to the allegations, which included making threatening comments to a student and inappropriately touching another student's buttocks.

The Discipline Committee found the Member guilty of professional misconduct.

The Member resigned from the College and undertook never to apply for reinstatement.

The Committee accepted a joint submission on penalty, ordering a reprimand and a seven-month suspension of the Member's certificate.

The member was found to have engaged in professional misconduct during the 2017-2018 academic year by frequently yelling at students, failing to manage his class, failing to intervene when students watched pornography or roughhoused, and making inappropriate comments.

The Discipline Committee ordered a reprimand, a four-month suspension of the member's Certificate of Qualification and Registration, and imposed terms, conditions, or limitations requiring the successful completion of a pre-approved course on classroom management.

The member was also ordered to pay $5,000 in costs to the College.
