The Ontario College of Teachers brought a discipline proceeding against a member for engaging in an inappropriate and unprofessional relationship with an 18-year-old female student.
The member admitted to the allegations, which included discussing personal issues, expressing feelings for the student, and meeting her off school property.
The Discipline Committee accepted a Memorandum of Agreement, finding the member guilty of professional misconduct.
The Committee ordered a 12-month suspension of the member's certificate of qualification and registration, and required the member to complete a course on maintaining appropriate boundaries before returning to teaching.
