The member, a high school teacher, acted as a chaperone for a boys' basketball team field trip.
During the trip, he consumed alcohol in his hotel room and in the presence of students, permitted students to drive the rented van, failed to notice missing students, failed to notice a student consuming alcohol, and failed to investigate an altercation or seek medical treatment for an injured student.
He also failed to report his absence in a timely manner and actively hid his knowledge of the events during the school's investigation.
The member pled no contest to professional misconduct.
The Discipline Committee accepted a joint submission on penalty, ordering a reprimand, a three-month suspension, and terms and conditions including psychiatric clearance, proof of completion of a Twelve Step Recovery Program, and completion of a boundaries course before returning to teaching.
