The Ontario College of Teachers brought discipline proceedings against a teacher who struck a student with a hockey stick in an arena change room.

The incident began as horseplay, but the teacher blocked the student in the shower and made physical contact with the stick, causing welts and embarrassment.

The Discipline Committee found that while there was no malice or intent to harm, the teacher committed a boundary violation and failed to maintain the standards of the profession.

The teacher was found guilty of professional misconduct and suspended for five days.

The Ontario College of Teachers held a discipline hearing regarding allegations that the member sexually abused a student.

The member did not attend but had signed an Agreed Statement of Facts admitting to sending inappropriate electronic communications and touching the student for a sexual purpose.

The Discipline Committee found the member guilty of professional misconduct and ordered an 18-month suspension of his Certificate of Qualification and Registration.
