The applicant sought compensation from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board for injuries sustained during an unprovoked assault at a school.
The offender, who was convicted of assault, punched the applicant in the face and head, causing physical and emotional injuries including a detached retina and a partial rotator cuff tear.
The Board found the applicant was a victim of a crime of violence and awarded $5,000.00 for pain and suffering, plus $478.95 for out-of-pocket and travel expenses, for a total award of $5,478.95.
