LCBO discriminated against female employee by terminating her part-time employment and perpetuating systemic hiring biases.
The complainant alleged that the Liquor Control Board of Ontario discriminated against her on the basis of sex when it terminated her part-time employment and failed to consider her for a permanent position.
The Board of Inquiry found that the complainant's sex was a material cause in her termination, as management failed to address male employees' resentment over her performing heavy lifting duties.
The Board also found that the respondent's passive recruiting practices perpetuated systemic discrimination against women.
The complaint was substantiated, and the respondent was ordered to pay compensation, issue an apology, and implement measures to address the gender imbalance in its workforce.
