The College of Nurses of Ontario brought disciplinary proceedings against a registered nurse for professional misconduct while employed at a youth detention centre.

The nurse admitted to engaging in a personal relationship with a youth patient, failing to report the patient's possession of a contraband cell phone, and bringing contraband items including cannabis and e-cigarettes into the facility for the patient.

The Discipline Committee found the nurse committed professional misconduct and engaged in dishonourable and unprofessional conduct.

Accepting a joint submission on penalty, the Committee ordered a four-month suspension, an oral reprimand, meetings with a regulatory expert, and 12 months of employer notification.

The College of Nurses of Ontario brought allegations of professional misconduct against the respondent for failing to comply with an order of the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee (ICRC).

The ICRC had ordered the respondent to complete a Specified Continuing Education or Remediation Program (SCERP) and to appear for an in-person caution.

The respondent did not attend the discipline hearing.

The Discipline Committee found that the respondent committed professional misconduct by failing to complete the SCERP and failing to attend the caution, which constituted dishonourable and unprofessional conduct.

The Committee ordered a reprimand, a four-month suspension, and terms and conditions on the respondent's certificate of registration.

The Member, a Registered Practical Nurse, faced allegations of professional misconduct including using inappropriate language with a colleague, failing to adequately assess and document after patient falls and allergic reactions, and verbally and emotionally abusing a patient.

The matter proceeded on an Agreed Statement of Facts and Joint Submission on Order.

The Discipline Committee found the Member committed the admitted acts of professional misconduct.

As the Member had already permanently resigned his certificate of registration and undertaken never to reapply, the Committee ordered an oral reprimand.

The Member, a Registered Practical Nurse, admitted to professional misconduct after taking a photograph of a vulnerable, nude patient lying on the floor without consent and sharing it with colleagues in a WhatsApp group chat.

The Discipline Committee found that the Member's actions constituted a breach of the standards of practice, emotional abuse, and dishonourable and unprofessional conduct.

The Committee accepted a joint submission on penalty, ordering a reprimand, a two-month suspension, remediation with a regulatory expert, and 12 months of employer notification.

The Member, a Registered Nurse, admitted to committing professional misconduct by submitting a false claim of $1,600 for compression stockings under her employer's benefit plan.

The Member split the reimbursement with the service provider and used her share for non-covered items.

The Discipline Committee accepted an Agreed Statement of Facts and a Joint Submission on Order.

The Member was reprimanded, her certificate of registration was suspended for three months, and terms, conditions, and limitations were imposed on her certificate.
