The College of Nurses of Ontario brought disciplinary proceedings against a Registered Practical Nurse for professional misconduct.

The Member was alleged to have misappropriated funds from an elderly patient by using the patient's bank card for personal purchases and cash withdrawals, and for failing to report subsequent criminal charges and convictions for theft to the College.

The Discipline Committee found that the Member committed professional misconduct, including emotional and financial abuse, and that her conduct was disgraceful, dishonourable, and unprofessional.

The Committee ordered an oral reprimand, a 12-month suspension, and imposed terms, conditions, and limitations on her certificate of registration.

The member, a registered nurse, faced allegations of professional misconduct for improperly disposing of patients' medication by taking empty pill bottles home for personal use, and for failing to report to the College that she had been criminally charged with theft and possession of property obtained by crime.

The member admitted to the allegations.

Accepting a joint submission on penalty, the Committee ordered a reprimand, a two-month suspension, and terms, conditions, and limitations on her certificate of registration, including meetings with a regulatory expert and employer notification.

The Member, a Registered Practical Nurse, faced allegations of professional misconduct for soliciting and misappropriating funds from a vulnerable patient and implying that medication would be withheld if the funds were not provided.

The Member admitted to the allegations, which included accepting a $1,500 cheque and removing $100 from the patient's purse.

The College of Nurses of Ontario brought disciplinary proceedings against a registered practical nurse for failing to participate in the mandatory Quality Assurance Program.

Despite multiple notifications and opportunities to complete the 2015 and 2017 practice assessments, the member did not comply or respond.

The Discipline Committee found the member committed professional misconduct by failing to cooperate with the Quality Assurance Committee and engaging in dishonourable and unprofessional conduct.

The member's certificate of registration was suspended for four months, and she was ordered to attend meetings with a regulatory expert and complete the next available Quality Assurance program cycle.
