The College of Nurses of Ontario brought discipline proceedings against a Registered Practical Nurse for multiple incidents of patient abuse involving vulnerable patients with cognitive impairments.
The Member was alleged to have yelled at a patient, aggressively ripped off a patient's gloves, wrapped a blanket around another patient's head, and placed a towel in a third patient's mouth.
The Discipline Committee found that the Member's actions constituted verbal, physical, and emotional abuse, and breached the standards of practice.
The Member, who did not attend the hearing, was ordered to receive an oral reprimand, a six-month suspension, and terms and conditions on her certificate of registration.
