The Applicant sought compensation from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board for physical and emotional injuries sustained when he was assaulted by an offender at a wedding party.
The offender, who was convicted of aggravated assault, struck the Applicant when he intervened in an altercation.
The Board found that the Applicant was a victim of a crime of violence and accepted his evidence regarding his injuries, which included a concussion, shoulder and knee injuries, and PTSD.
The Board awarded the Applicant $6,000 for pain and suffering and $52 for travel expenses.
