The offender pleaded guilty to possession of a loaded prohibited firearm and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
The Crown sought a global sentence of four years in custody.
The court found exceptional circumstances, noting the offender's lower moral blameworthiness as she was likely covering for the principal offender, her history of abuse and drug addiction, and her significant strides toward rehabilitation.
Following the repeal of s. 742.1(e) of the Criminal Code, the court imposed a conditional sentence of two years less a day, finding it would not endanger the community and would satisfy the principles of denunciation and deterrence.
