CITATION: Pilon v. Ontario, 2016 ONSC 2369
COURT FILE NO.: 3165-14
DATE: 2016-04-08
SUPERIOR COURT OF JUSTICE - ONTARIO
RE: Paul Pilon, Plaintiff
AND:
HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN IN RIGHT OF ONTARIO, The Greater Sudbury Police Services Board, Paul Rintala, Mark Kovala, Todd Gascon, Jeff Lock, Tim Burtt and Dan Markiewich, Defendants
BEFORE: The Honourable Mr. Justice John S. Poupore
COUNSEL: Paul Pilon, acting in person
Connie Vernon, Counsel for the Defendant, HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN IN RIGHT OF ONTARIO
Michael C. Birnie, Counsel for the Defendants, The Greater Sudbury Police Services Board, Paul Rintala, Mark Kovala, Todd Gascon, Jeff Lock, Tim Burtt and Dan Markiewich
HEARD: Written Submissions
ENDORSEMENT on COSTS
[1] The court requested all parties to make submissions on costs. Counsel for the defendants, Ms. Vernon and Mr. Bernie, submitted Bills of Costs to the court and Mr. Pilon who was given 15 days to respond. It has now been more than 3 months since Mr. Pilon received defence counsels’ submissions. He has not responded.
[2] I have reviewed both bills of costs and find them to be reasonable in the circumstances. This was a difficult matter which affected a number of parties. Defence counsel were most helpful to the court in this matter when the plaintiff appeared unrepresented with numerous materials.
[3] Order to go approving both bills of costs submitted by the defence. The Crown bill for $12,415.00 on a partial indemnity basis and counsel for the police defendants in the sum of $32,676.90 on a partial indemnity basis.
The Honourable Mr. Justice John S. Poupore
