Following a motion to change a prior family law order, the payor spouse sought termination of child support and eventual termination of spousal support.
The court confirmed that the parties’ adult child was no longer a dependant and finalized the prior temporary order terminating child support.
Regarding spousal support, the court found a material change in circumstances including the payor’s reduced income and the recipient’s failure to make reasonable efforts toward self‑sufficiency as required by the earlier order.
Applying the Spousal Support Advisory Guidelines and considering the parties’ ages, health, and marriage duration, the court maintained the existing quantum but imposed a fixed termination date.
Spousal support of $1,500 per month was ordered to continue until January 1, 2017.
