Application to authorize CSIS retention of datasets allowed.
This was the first application for judicial authorizations pursuant to section 11.13 of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service Act for the retention of two Canadian datasets for a period of two years since the creation of the dataset regime.
The Court found that the statutory formal prerequisites were met and that retention of the datasets was likely to assist the Service in the performance of its duties.
The application was allowed, and retention of the datasets was authorized subject to specific terms and conditions.
