Jean Louise MacFarland was born November 18, 1946 in Kingston, Ontario (Osgoode Society, *Women Judges of Ontario*, p. 21). She practised civil litigation in Toronto as a named partner before being appointed to the Ontario trial bench in 1987 and elevated to the Court of Appeal for Ontario on November 19, 2004 (Wikipedia).
