The Tribunal has scheduled a summary hearing of this Application by teleconference on May 26, 2014.
The applicant has requested an adjournment. The reason for the request is set out in a single line that states she is seeking the adjournment “due to medical reasons”. No further explanation is provided.
The Tribunal only grants adjournments in exceptional circumstances. The Tribunal’s Practice Direction on Scheduling of Hearings and Mediations, Rescheduling Requests and Requests for Adjournments, which is found on the Tribunal’s website (www.hrto.ca), explains the Tribunal’s approach.
Because the applicant has provided so little detail in her request, it is impossible for the Tribunal to assess whether exceptional circumstances exist that would justify granting this request. For this reason the request is denied.
It is open to the applicant to make the request again, but this time to specify what the medical condition is that would prevent her from participating in the summary hearing. The best way to do this would be to provide clear information in writing from her doctor explaining her medical condition and also explaining why it prevents her from taking part in the summary hearing. In addition, the doctor’s letter should explain when the applicant would be able to participate in a summary hearing if it were to be rescheduled.

The request to adjourn is denied.
