The College of Nurses of Ontario brought allegations of professional misconduct against a registered nurse for three separate incidents of patient abuse in a long-term care facility.
The Discipline Committee found the nurse guilty of emotional abuse for forcing a patient to stand against her will, physical, verbal, and emotional abuse for using excessive force and threatening to bite a patient while applying a restraint, and disgraceful conduct for pushing or hitting a patient.
The Committee imposed a six-month suspension, an oral reprimand, and conditions requiring the completion of stress/anger management and gerontological nursing courses, along with two years of supervised practice.
