The Applicant sought compensation from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board for injuries allegedly sustained during an assault by police officers during a traffic stop in 1984.
The Board found that the Applicant and his brother provoked the physical altercation and that the police officers' use of force was justified under the Criminal Code.
As the force was justified, it did not constitute a crime of violence, and the application for compensation was denied.
The Board awarded $400 towards the Applicant's legal fees.
