The Ontario College of Teachers brought a discipline proceeding against an occasional teacher who failed to adequately supervise two young students, leaving them unattended in the school yard at dismissal time in winter.
The Discipline Committee found the member guilty of professional misconduct, noting he failed to follow explicit dismissal procedures and his actions constituted psychological or emotional abuse.
The member, who did not attend the hearing and had a prior disciplinary record, was penalized with a three-month suspension, a reprimand, mandatory coursework in classroom management, and publication of the decision with his name.
