SUDBURY DOWNS RACEWAY
Sudbury Downs Raceway appealed the Notice of Order dated October 22, 2007, issued by the Executive Director. The Order required Sudbury Downs to reschedule 3 race dates out of 6 that were lost due to a labour dispute between Sudbury Downs and its unionized employees.
The Ontario Racing Commission Panel hearing the matter consisted of Chair Rod Seiling and Commissioners Brenda Walker and Dr. Bernard Brennan, D.V.M. The Panel convened on November 15, 2007. Maureen A. Harquail and Wendy Hoogeveen appeared for the Administration, Andrew MacIsaac appeared for Sudbury Downs, Robert Bodkin appeared for the Northern Horsemen’s Association, Angela Casey appeared for Woodbine Entertainment Group and John Walzak appeared for the Ontario Harness Horse Association.
Upon reviewing the evidence and on hearing the submissions by Counsel for the Administration, Counsel for Sudbury Downs, the Northern Horsemen’s Association, Counsel for Woodbine Entertainment Group and the Ontario Harness Horse Association, the Panel dismissed the appeal and upheld the decision of the Executive Director.
