AND IN THE MATTER OF THOROUGHBRED OWNER/TRAINER ABRAHAM KATRYAN
Thoroughbred owner/trainer Abraham Katryan appealed the Stewards’ Ruling Number 2002-03 issued on January 7, 2002, here he was fined $3,500 for violation of Rules 15.06.1(a) and (b) of the Rules of Thoroughbred Racing as a result of a positive test for the prohibited Class IV drug DEXTRORPHAN (a metabolite of dextromethorphan) taken from the horse COMMON FRIDAY which raced in the 8th race at Woodbine Racetrack on November 30, 2001.
On March 14, 2002, Vice Chair Herbert Bryant, Commissioners Thomas Deacon and Patricia Bullock of the Ontario Racing Commission convened to hear the appeal.
Counsel Dan McMahon appeared on behalf of Abraham Katryan and Counsel Don Bourgeois appeared for the Administration.
Upon hearing the testimony of Steward Nelson Ham, groom Jacob Permaul and Abraham Katryan, upon reading the exhibits filed and upon hearing submissions on behalf of the parties, the Ontario Racing Commission granted the appeal of Mr. Katryan.
