THOROUGHBRED GROOM JEFF PEDERSON
RULING
Thoroughbred Trainer Rise Arnold appealed Ruling 2000-159 issued by the Stewards at Fort Erie Racetrack wherein she was suspended for the balance of the Ontario racing season terminating November 26, 2000 and the entire 2001 Ontario racing season. The Ruling alleged that Rise Arnold violated TB Rules 6.02, 6.11.1(a), 6.29, 15.09.1, 15.23, 15.28 and 15.29 for participating in a hidden ownership of the horses “SUDBURY QUEEN” and “BILL’S SEARCH” which the Stewards deemed were owned by Jeff Pederson.
Thoroughbred Groom Jeff Pederson appealed Ruling 2000-160 issued by the Stewards at Fort Erie Racetrack wherein he was suspended for the balance of the Ontario racing season terminating November 26, 2000 and the entire 2001 Ontario racing season. The Ruling alleged that Jeff Pederson violated TB Rules 6.02, 6.11.1(a), 6.29, 15.09.1, 15.23, 15.28 and 15.29.
On June 15, 2001 and on July 27, 2001, Vice-Chair Herbert Bryant convened to consider the appeal, along with Commissioners Dr. Bruce Duncan and Thomas Deacon.
Counsel Paul Bauerle appeared for Rise Arnold and Jeff Pederson appeared on his own behalf. Counsel Joanne Mitchell appeared for the Administration.
On hearing the testimonies of Steward Richard Grubb, Steward James Nemett, Vernon Smellie, Lynn Illic, Ralph Quaranta, David O’Conner, Detective Constable Michael Elchyshyn, Detective Sergeant Robert McKinney, Alan Tobe, Max Bidner, Rise Arnold, Jeff Pederson, and Steward Nancy Hilts, on reading the exhibits filed and on hearing the submissions of the parties, the panel allowed the appeals.
