IN THE MATTER OF THE RACING COMMISSION ACT, S.O. 2000, c. 20;
AND IN THE MATTER OF LIVE RACE DATES AND HIAWATHA HORSE PARK
On March 15, 2001, Chair Stanley Sadinsky Q.C., Vice-Chair Herbert Bryant and Commissioners Patricia Bullock, Diane Carlton, Tom Deacon, Bruce Duncan and Ernest Nock convened to hear an application from Hiawatha Horse Park to cancel 16 live race dates in April and December 2001.
President Jim Henderson and General Manager Rob Wilding represented Hiawatha Horse Park. Chief Operating Officer Reed Lawson appeared for the Ontario Harness Horse Association. Executive Director Jean Major and Manager, Information Services Wendy Hoogeveen appeared on behalf of the Administration.
Upon hearing the representations of Mr. Henderson and Mr. Lawson, the Ontario Racing Commission approved the cancellation of ONLY three race dates in the beginning of April to allow the race track time to repair the damage done to the track in late December 2000. The cancelled dates are April 5th, 7th and 12th, 2001, and Hiawatha Horse Park will now open for the season on April 14th, 2001.
Oral reasons for this decision were given at the hearing and form part of the transcript.
DATED this 19th day of March, 2001.
BY ORDER OF THE COMMISSION
Jean Major
