DECISION OF THE BOARD; May 1, 2001
1. This is an application for certification. The responding party seeks an extension of the date by which it must file its response until the middle of May.
2. The Labour Relations Act, 1995 provides, in subsection 8(5), that representation votes will be held within five days unless the Board directs otherwise. The scheme of the Act therefore contemplates that after a certification application has been received representation votes will be held quickly. It is thus necessary for responding parties to respond quickly. The Board will therefore not grant the request for an extension of time limits for the filing of the response to this application.
