DECISION OF THE BOARD; June 14, 2000
The Board is in receipt of a letter dated June 8, 2000 respecting a further one-year extension of the administration of Local 1883 (the “Local”) in accordance with section 89(2) of the Labour Relations Act, 1995 (the “Act”). The Local was put under trusteeship effective June 30, 1999. The Act permits a one-year extension with the consent of the Board.
The Board wishes to ensure that the members of the Local are given the opportunity to make submissions on this matter. Therefore, the Board directs the applicant union to take such steps as are necessary to bring its request to the attention of the members of Local 1883 who will be affected by it. At a minimum, the members must receive forthwith a copy of the letter dated June 8, 2000 and this decision. The applicant is also directed to advise the Board, in writing, of the steps it has taken in compliance with this decision to bring this matter to the attention of its members.
MEMBERS OF LOCAL 1883 OF THE CANADIAN UNION OF PUBLIC EMPLOYEES WHO RECEIVE A COPY OF THIS DECISION WILL HAVE UNTIL JUNE 30, 2000 TO ADVISE THE BOARD, IN WRITING, WHETHER OR NOT THEY OPPOSE THE APPLICANT’S REQUEST FOR AN EXTENSION OF ITS TRUSTEESHIP OVER LOCAL 1883. MEMBERS OF LOCAL 1883 WHO OPPOSE THE APPLICANT’S REQUEST MUST ALSO SPECIFY, IN WRITING, THEIR REASONS FOR DOING SO.
The Board further directs that the trusteeship is extended on an interim basis until July 31, 2000.
We will remain seized to consider the submissions, if any, from the members and with respect to the applicant’s compliance with this decision.
