HEARING

Decision
1Mr. Daniel Vriesema, a Correctional Officer at the Quinte Detention Centre, filed two grievances on February 15 and March 22, 2023 alleging that the employer breached the collective agreement by denying him meal claims, respectively, for January 25, and February 4 and 5, 2023 as required under Article COR 12.1.1. The employer submitted that there was no violation of the collective agreement.
2The parties referred this grievance to mediation/arbitration in accordance with Article 22.16 of the collective agreement. At the outset of the hearing, the parties agreed that I had the jurisdiction to deal with this matter. They asked that I issue a decision without precedential value, and without written reasons.
3Having carefully considered the submissions of the parties, as well as the jurisprudence of the Board, I have decided to grant the grievances and hereby order the employer to pay three meal allowances forthwith, amounting to $37.50.
Dated at Toronto, Ontario this 13th day of October 2023.
