DIRECTION
This matter involves six grievances, alleging that the grievors were improperly suspended without pay in February 2001.
The Union now brings an application seeking relief in the nature of interim compensation pending the hearing of the grievances on their merits. The interim application commenced on September 5, 2001. The hearing was not completed that day. The Board was advised that three more hours would be required to complete the interim proceedings. The parties are prepared to continue that hearing on September 18, 2001.
The hearing on the merits is scheduled for December 3, 2001.
The interim application will continue on September 18, 2001.
It is well accepted that labour relations delayed are labour relations defeated and denied. Accordingly, upon the completion of the interim application on September 18, 2001, the Board will immediately commence the hearing into the merits.
The parties are directed to come prepared to begin the hearing on the merits and to set such further and other continuation dates as are required to bring these proceedings to a speedy conclusion.
Dated at Toronto, this 10th day of September, 2001.
