The Director of Economic Development and Tourism filed a complaint against the Deputy Mayor, alleging she contravened the Council Code of Conduct by interfering with lease negotiations and publicly criticizing his actions and expenditures.

The Integrity Commissioner found that while the Deputy Mayor should not have criticized staff in public, her actions did not amount to malicious injury of professional reputation or bullying under the Code.

The complaint was dismissed without sanctions, but the Deputy Mayor was strongly warned against future public criticism of the complainant.

A complaint was filed against a municipal councillor alleging he improperly used the influence of his office to secure a three-way stop at an intersection as a favour to a former colleague.

The Integrity Commissioner investigated and found that the councillor was acting within his official duties to address traffic safety concerns.

The Commissioner concluded that advocating for the stop signs at Council did not constitute an improper use of influence for private advantage, as the matter affected a broad class of persons.

The complaint was dismissed.

A resident filed a complaint alleging that the Mayor violated the Code of Conduct and the procedural by-law by participating as an ex-officio member of the Multiplex Task Force.

The Integrity Commissioner found that the procedural by-law was ambiguous regarding which committees the Mayor could sit on as an ex-officio member.

The Mayor's belief that he could participate was reasonable and consistent with the practices of other local mayors.

The Integrity Commissioner concluded there was no violation of the Code of Conduct and recommended no sanctions.
