The Ontario Human Rights Commission filed a complaint alleging that the respondents discriminated against single persons by requiring them to provide co-signers for apartment leases.
The Board of Inquiry heard evidence from a human rights officer and the respondent owner.
The Board accepted the owner's testimony that co-signers were only required when there were doubts about a prospective tenant's financial responsibility, regardless of marital status.
Finding no evidence of a discriminatory policy, the Board dismissed the complaint.
