1These are two Applications filed September 8, 2008 under section 53(3) of Part VI of the Human Rights Code, R.S.O. 1990, c. H.19, as amended (the “Code”). The respondents have not yet filed their Responses (Form B) which are due 35 days after they received the applicant’s Application (Form A).

2The Applications are briefly summarized as follows:

T-0234-08: The respondents in this application are the York University School of Social Work (School of Social Work), Saara Green and Amy Rossiter. The applicant alleges discrimination based on race, colour and disability in respect of goods and services provided by the respondents. The applicant was a student in the School of Social Work at the time of the alleged discrimination.

T-0235-08: The respondents in this application are The Women’s Centre of York Region (the Women’s Centre) and Sandra Freer. The applicant alleges discrimination based on race, colour and disability in respect of goods and services provided by the respondents. At the time of the alleged discrimination, the applicant was in a practicum placement at the Women’s Centre as part of her program in the School of Social Work.

3The Tribunal’s Rules for Applications under section 53(3) of the Code are to be interpreted and applied in a way that ensures a fair, just and highly expeditious process for the determination of these applications.

4These Applications arise from incidents alleged to have occurred during a practicum placement at The Women’s Centre as part of the program of the School of Social Work, will involve related facts and appear to raise similar legal issues. Accordingly, I find, pursuant to Rules 1.1, 4.1 and 4.3 (m), that in order to ensure a fair, just and highly expeditious process for their resolution, these applications should proceed together at this stage.
