By Order of the Discipline Panel dated November 13, 2024, pursuant to subsection s.45(3) of the Health Professions Procedural Code of the Nursing Act, 1991, no one shall publish or broadcast the name(s) of the patient(s), or any information that could disclose the identity(ies) of the patient(s), referred to orally or in any documents presented at the Discipline hearing of Angela Kaludis.
This matter was heard by a panel of the Discipline Committee (the “Panel”) of the College of Nurses of Ontario (the “College”) on November 13, 2024.
The Allegations
The allegations against Angela Kaludis (the “Member”) as stated in the Notice of Hearing dated October 10, 2024 are as follows:
IT IS ALLEGED THAT:
- You have committed an act of professional misconduct as provided by subsection 51(1)(c) of the Health Professions Procedural Code of the Nursing Act, 1991, S.O. 1991, c. 32, as amended, and defined in subsection 1(1) of Ontario Regulation 799/93, in that, while employed at Ontario Addiction Treatment Centre in Collingwood, Ontario, you contravened a standard of practice of the profession or failed to meet the standards of practice of the profession, in that you failed to maintain the boundaries of the therapeutic nurse-patient relationship with patients, in that:
(a) between on or about August 2021 and March 2022, you provided your telephone number to your patient, [Patient A] and/or obtained [Patient A]’s telephone number for purposes unrelated to patient care and/or texted and/or spoke to [Patient A] about matters unrelated to [Patient A]’s care;
(b) between on or about August 2021 and March 2022, you drove [Patient A] from Collingwood to Midland and back, for purposes unrelated to patient care;
(c) between on or about August 2021 and March 2022, you failed to consult with your manager after you received inappropriate and/or sexually suggestive texts from [Patient A];
(d) between on or about February and March 2022, you provided your telephone number to your patient, [Patient B] and/or obtained [Patient B]’s telephone number for purposes unrelated to patient care and/or texted and/or spoke to [Patient B] about matters unrelated to [Patient B]’s care;
(e) between on or about February and March 2022, you failed to consult with your manager after you received inappropriate and/or sexually suggestive texts from [Patient B];
(f) in or about February 2022, you provided your telephone number to your patient, [Patient C] and/or obtained [Patient C]’s telephone number for purposes unrelated to patient care and/or texted and/or spoke to [Patient C] about matters unrelated to [Patient C]’s care;
(g) in or about February 2022, you offered to rehome [Patient C]’s dog with your family, and/or attempted to convince [Patient C] to let you keep the dog;
(h) between on or about October and December 2021, you permitted your patient, [Patient D] to reside in your home; and/or
(i) between on or about July 2021 to March 2022, you provided your telephone number to your patient, [Patient D] and/or obtained [Patient D]’s telephone number for purposes unrelated to patient care and/or texted and/or spoke to [Patient D] about matters unrelated to [Patient D]’s care.
